Flat Finishers
Flat Finishers
Our flat finishers give you almost unlimited possibilities.
Finish a variety of materials – ferrous and nonferrous metals, plastics, rubber, mica, wood, carbon, paper, and more – by utilizing a variety of media – abrasive belts, wheels or brushes, singly, in groups or in combinations.
Process capabilities
Flat finishers perform a range of operations, including:
- Stock removal
- Fine finishing
- Deburring
- Scale or oxide removal
- And more
Advantages
Improved productivity
Multi-head construction allows pieces to pass continuously underneath the heads, eliminating many individual operations. The result is:
- Reduced finishing time per piece
- Higher production rates. Typically, the only limit to the number of pieces produced per hour is conveyor load speed
Reduced costs
A flat finisher reduces finishing costs:
- Each piece is worked at a constant, precise pressure and speed, which provides longer abrasive belt or finishing wheel life than hand operations
- Operations can be done wet, which keeps finishing media clean, free-cutting, and increases its useful life
Work accuracy
Flat finishers are high production surfacing machines, different from precision machines such as surface grinders.
Certain variables on flat finishers (e.g., moving conveyor belt, conveyor platen, resilient contact roll and finishing media) limit potential holding tolerances. On production, the tolerance range is plus or minus .001” to .002”.
Minimum tooling
Tooling is usually minimized through the use of various combinations of conveyor belts, conveyor platens, work hold-down rolls and cleats. Fixtures, if needed, can be loose or attached to the conveyor belt.
